Searching for a fun easy DIY gift wrap idea for kids? For the birthday girl or boy in your life, this is it! Birthday candles and bright colors. I started with an iridescent pink wrapping paper. Then I added candles fashioned from strips of bright pink, orange, and green washi tape. The flame is just black card stock that I cut out by hand and glued on. You could wrap this with any solid paper but the brighter the better for a birthday. You could use green paper here and the same bright washi tape colors. This is an easy idea that brings a whole lot of fun to the celebration.
For our country’s birthday – the Fourth of July, I used the same theme but with different color paper and washi tape. I wrapped this package with a glossy white wrapping paper, then added washi tape in patriotic colors. I used a red diagonal stripe, a blue diagonal stripe, a multi-color stripe, a bright blue star, and a red plaid washi tape. Again I just cut strips and taped them to the package and used yellow card stock for the flame. Because this one was wrapped in plain white wrapping paper, I thought it needed a little something more, to match the festiveness of this occasion. So I used a spray adhesive and applied a light coat to the outer edges of the top of the package, then sprinkled the package with red and blue glitter. A bright blue paper and red, white, and blue washi tape would look equally spirited. Use your imagination.
This gift wrap idea would also work well for the Hanukkah holiday season which is celebrated by lighting each day one candle on the menorah. A gift box wrapped in silver or blue with eight different washi tape candles. Lovely!
The different washi tape selections are endless. You can even buy less than a roll – just for something like this. Wrapping a package with washi tape is great for gifts that need to be shipped because there are no bows to get squished. And they look just as special. Happy wrapping!
