Gift Wrap Instructions

For a gift wrapped in fringe, here’s a duo of polka dots and a fringe garland. What a fun alternative to gift bags and tissue paper. This gift wrap idea is a creative way to wrap up that perfect gift and add a personal touch.

I used tissue paper in two color combinations, both with gold dot wrapping paper. Metallic colors often work like a neutral and work with a lot of colors so I used this one gold metallic for both gifts coupled with a bright color.  And I used varying hues of tissue paper to create an ombre effect.

I wrapped identical gift boxes with the same gold dot wrapping paper. The gift boxes I used were 7” x 5 ½” by 2” high, so each of my tissue paper strips was 15” long to go around the box horizontally as shown but with varying widths. So that each strip would be nice and “feathery” each is 3 layers of tissue paper.

The top strip measured 1 ¾ “ wide and 15” long but  I turned the top edge over ¼” to give it a clean edge, so the final measure was 1 ½” wide.

The next strip measured 2” wide and the same length – making it ½” longer than the previous strip. The next was 2 ½” wide and the same length and the last was 3” wide.

So each strip was ½” longer than the previous one as shown. Before cutting the tissue strips’ long edge, I stapled the 3 pieces of tissue paper together – just along the top edge, to keep them in place while I cut the fringed edge.

Then along the bottom ½” or so I cut the fringed edge. I cheated and used special fringe scissors but of course you could use regular scissors. It would just take a bit longer. I had these on hand having used them for wedding menu cards, and they do make quick work of this.

Finally, I taped the tissue paper strips to the top of the package – starting with the widest and taping it a few inches from the bottom of the box. I taped them layered as shown, continuing around the box. Then I added a ribbon tied in a bow at the top. You could add gift tags, attached to the bow if you liked.

These gift wrapping ideas would be great for many occasions including graduation celebrations, baby showers or holiday gifts. Just swap out the bright color tissue paper for pastel colors and you have the perfect shower gift wrap idea. Or wrap up a gift in plain brown paper and add traditional red and green tissue paper for Christmas gifts. The possibilities are endless and wrapping a gift in fringe promises to take any gift to the next level.
