Here’s an easy way to add that personal touch to any gift wrap. Get creative with these fun gift topper ideas using feathers. Feathers are the perfect way to dress up a gift. They are easily tucked into a ribbon-wrapped gift and easy to make. Pom poms, pine cones and cinnamon sticks are great gift topper ideas but if you are looking for a unique way to wrap up that perfect gift – give feathers a try!
For the first fun gift topper idea, I simply cut a feather shape out of an old piece of wallpaper, but any patterned paper would work. I cut a template out of an old manilla folder and used it to trace and cut the feathered shape out of the patterned paper. Then just tucked it into the ribbon-wrapped gift. You could cut the shape out of old holiday cards and tuck these in your holiday gifts too!
Another fun gift topper idea was made using actual feathers and a beautiful blue glitter. I used regular Elmer’s glue and just applied a little to the ends of the feathers. Then I sprinkled the glitter over the wet glue, shook off whatever did not stick and set them aside to dry. Once dry, I simply slid them under the ribbon to hold them in place. Lovely. Natural elements like feathers are easy to embellish and add interest to any beautifully wrapped gift. They are the perfect DIY gift toppers.
For the last fun gift topper idea, I cut a template of a feather out of card stock and layered washi tape horizontally all along the cut out. I used a green washi tape with a cross-hatch design and just layered them one tape layer over another. Then I turned it over and cut out the feather shape again – cutting away the extra tape from the edges. Lastly, I feathered the edges, cutting diagonal cuts towards the center of the feather on both sides. And again, I just tucked this in behind a section of pretty ribbon.
This idea really is so versatile. And these feathers can do double duty serving as gift tags as well. Think white feathers embellished with silver glitter, tucked into a package wrapped all in white wrapping paper. A lovely wedding gift wrap idea. Or feathers cut out of red dot paper tucked into a gift box wrapped all in red for the holiday season. And a washi tape feather using a pretty floral tape would be a beautiful gift. It’s just a simple way to add something unusual and striking for most any special occasion.
