Gift wrap instructions for Valentines Lipstick Gift Boxes

I love Valentine’s Day, but not for the reason you are probably thinking. I LOVE the color palette. Store windows are decked with red hearts, pink ribbon, pink wrapping paper, giant conversation hearts, and balloon garlands. And the hunt is on for the perfect valentine’s day gift.

And with Valentines day around the corner these little gift boxes are the perfect way to add that that personal touch to your special gift. These little gift boxes are the sweetest valentine gift wrap idea out there. So whether you are looking for something truly unique for a Valentine’s day party or a creative way to give a gift for that special occasion, lipstick gift boxes are sure to make a big impression.

My Valentine lipstick favor boxes are essentially a small gift box, designed to look like a tube of lipstick. It is just big enough to hold a small gift (can you say jewelry?) or a Valentine’s gift like chocolate hearts or another sweet treat.

I cut three different templates, one to make the outer lipstick tube, one to make the inner lipstick tube and one to make the actual lipstick.

Starting with the bottom/outer template, I used a toilet paper tube as my base.  The template I cut for the bottom/outer piece was a rectangle measuring 6 inches wide by 3 ½ inches long. I also cut a 1 ¾ -inch circle to be the base of the box.

The next template was for the inner lipstick tube and I cut this piece an inch narrower – so a rectangle 5 inches wide by 6 inches long.

The final template for the lipstick was a rectangle 3 ¾ inches wide by 8 inches long. After I cut it out, I folded it in half and cut a triangle-shaped piece from the top as shown. So that when it was folded it looked like an actual lipstick.

As you can see, I used three different paper selections to fashion the outer tubes – a textured white paper, a glossy gold and black polka dots.  I just laid the correct template for the outer tube on the card stock, traced around it with pencil, and cut it out. I also cut a 1 ¾ -inch circle out of each of the three different papers.

For the inner lipstick tube, I used a glossy gold paper. A silver paper would look wonderful too. And just like before, I laid the corresponding template on the gold paper, traced around it, and cut it out.

For the last template – the actual lipstick, I used a selection of red and pink card stock. Again, I just laid the remaining template on the paper, traced around it, and cut it out.

Then I began assembling the lipstick gift boxes. I started by hot gluing the first white textured paper to the toilet paper tube, having cut the tube down to the correct length – 3 ½ inches. Then I glued the 1 ¾-inch circle cut from the same paper to the bottom of the toilet paper tube.  I did the same with the other selected papers – the glossy gold and the black dot. This serves as the base of our box.

For the next step, the inner tube, I rolled one of the gold gloss rectangles, hot glued the long edge together and inserted it in the outer tube. And I did the same with all three.

For the final step, I rolled each of the pink rectangles, glued the long edges together, and inserted each in the inner tube. Viola! Darling gift boxes to resemble a tube of lipstick.

Just fill with your goodies or gifts! You can even add “punny” gift tags like I did. What a cute idea for kids of all ages. Fill it with special treats and you have the perfect cute Valentines gifts.  Or if you have a special day in the future a thoughtful gift-wrapping idea!

Happy Valentine’s Day!
