Looking for an all-occasion gift wrap idea? Something simple but impressive? This is it and it’s incredibly versatile as well. Skip the gift bags and tissue paper for this fun way to wrap the perfect gift. It’s something out of the ordinary and you can prep it all in advance. I have a drawer full of these pom poms in various colors and you can make good use of your old sweaters for the DIY ribbon.
All you need is a simple box with a knit ribbon and yarn Pom Pom bow to create this look. This time I used a reusable gray gift box so no wrapping skills were required.
I took an old gray sweater, measured about 4” from the bottom edge, and marked it off every few inches to help me cut a straight line. Then I cut the 4-inch strip from the bottom and treated the cut edges with fray check to keep them from raveling. When it was dry, I wrapped it around the package, glued it in place, and glued several yarn pom poms to the top.
I make these pom poms year-round using a great little gadget, but you can do it with a piece of cardboard too. The tool just makes it easier. And the “sweater” ribbons can be cut ahead of time and stored until you need them. Such a unique way to add a personal touch.
My package is a gray tone-on-tone but it would be great for the holiday season with bright holiday colors too! Use grab-and-go gift boxes, add a complimentary color “sweater” ribbon, and yarn pom poms. Or wrap a box in colorful print paper and add the sweater ribbon and pom poms. And it can all be done ahead of time for any gift-giving occasion. Just add a gift tag and you are all set!
